Headed to Moon River

Friday I begin a trek to Chattanooga, Tennessee to attend the Moon River music festival. The festival is hosted by Drew Holcomb who I greatly respect. I’ve been a fan of his music for a while and am a member of his Magnolia Record Club service. When the lineup for the festival was released earlier this year, I knew I had to at least try to attend. I was fortunate enough to secure a ticket before it sold out and had enough southwest rapid rewards to book a ticket to fly out.

There were bands playing that I’ve seen multiple times which include Judah and the Lion (16), Joseph (5), Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors (2), and The Avett Brothers (2). Then there were bands that I haven’t had the chance to see yet and am really looking forward to including I’m With Her, The Head and the Heart, Mandolin Orange, Penny and Sparrow, Darlingside, Trampled by Turtles, and The Ballroom Thieves. Finally, today I learned that one of the bands who had been scheduled had unfortunately had to step out leaving a spot open. That spot was announced as being filled by none other than Colony House(7). Needless to say that made me even more psyched than I was already.

Recently with each subsequent show that I’ve been to, I’ve tried to be a little more intentional in documenting the experience from several different angles. Since, I’m trying to get into the hosting game more and more, I want to pick up on not only what goes well but where I notice improvements could take place. I obviously won’t host on the scale of this weekend, but I want to host things that sprawl across the grounds. I’ll also write as much I can about the experience from various angles too. I’m really looking forward to this journey and being able to take you all with me through live video and then also reporting back through blog/vlog.

Have you ever been to a festival; what was your experience?
